visual improvement following ozonetherapy in dry age related macular degeneration; a review

چکیده
800x600 the dry form of armd is becoming a serious problem because of the rise in the number of old individuals. no effective therapy is available in dry armd except for the illusory oral administration of antioxidant vitamins. despite scepticism in the medical community, the therapeutic effect of ozonetherapy had been evaluated since 1996. this evaluation has been based on specific biochemical, molecular and pharmacological reactions. nevertheless a number of visual scientists continue to ignore ozonetherapy conservatively and prescribe only antioxidant vitamins. two small clinical studies involving 217 patients have been performed at the university of siena showing that ozonetherapy can stop the progression of the disease while improving the visual acuity and the well-being of the patient. moreover, it seems that ozonetherapy is a safe procedure and tends to have an excellent compliance. normal 0 false false false en-us x-none ar-sa

A number of different approaches are under development for treating nonexudative manifestations of age-related macular degeneration (AMD). Some interventions target specific pathways that are believed to play a role in AMD pathogenesis, e.g. oxidative damage, lipofuscin accumulation, chronic inflammation (including complement activation), extracellular matrix changes (e.g. β-amyloid accumulatio...

PURPOSE To study the visual and anatomic outcome of intravitreal bevacizumab injection in the treatment of exudative age-related macular degeneration (AMD). METHODS Retrospective review of patients who received one or more intravitreal bevacizumab injections for exudative AMD. Outcome measures include standardized visual acuity, optical coherence tomography (OCT), macular thickness and volume...
متن کامل[Age Related Macular Degeneration--a review].
Age-Related Macular Degeneration is the leading cause of legal blindness in elderly people in Iceland as well as in the western world. If not addressed this will have a huge impact on the quality of life in the ever increasing elderly population. The etiology remains unknown inspite of a better understanding of the pathogenesis. Our treatment options have therefore been limited in the past. For...

age-related macular degeneration (armd) is a major cause of central blindness among working aged adults across the world. systematic research planning on any subject, including armd is in need of solid data regarding previous efforts in this field and to identify the gaps in the research. this study aimed to elucidate the most important trends, directions, and gap in this subject. the data extr...
متن کاملRetinal microenvironment imbalance in dry age-related macular degeneration: a mini-review.
BACKGROUND Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) is the leading cause of blindness in the western world. To prevent what will certainly be a tremendous health and economic burden, effective therapeutics for AMD are urgently needed. To develop these agents in a timely fashion, the molecular pathways that cause disease progression must be elucidated. OBJECTIVE To briefly describe the clinical ...
